Our Story
How Akilah Fresh Started
Akilah Fresh was born out of my own personal struggle. I didn’t grow up dreaming of having a deodorant brand. In fact, I never even saw “wellness advocate” or "business owner" in my future at all. Truth be told, I wanted to be a famous singer because music was my first love, but God had other plans for me. When my body started waving red flags during my sophomore year of college (chronic constipation, weight gain, & recurring vaginal infections), I knew I had to do something, and that changed everything.

I went from being completely clueless about health, to becoming a full-on health geek. I studied herbs, and all sorts of natural remedies to heal my body, and during that healing journey, it sparked something in me. I fell deeply in love with the world of wellness, and it became a whole new way of living for me. My entire lifestyle changed, and the more intentional I became about what I put in my body, the more I started to think about what I put on my body, and deodorant was one of those things that always let me down.
I tried the natural ones. I tried clinical strength. I even tried men’s deodorant, but none of them seemed to work. So what did I do? I took matters into my own hands, got in the kitchen, started experimenting, and in 2013, that experiment became Akilah Fresh... or at least the first version of it.

What I had created worked better than anything I had ever tried before and It kept me fresh ALL DAY. I was locked in! and through the years I continued to perfect my formula, and the more people learned about my little creation, the more I felt called to share it. So I did.
​
And what was once one of my random kitchen experiments, blossomed into something way bigger than I could have ever imagined, and now I get to share it with the world and help others feel safe, free, and confident in their bodies again.
